Yesterday’s Google Doodle celebrates late veteran Nollywood filmmaker and media entrepreneur, Amaka Igwe, on her 57th posthumous birthday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the doodle, which is a temporary alteration of the website’s logo, went up on Google’s homepage on Thursday in honour of the late Igwe’s contributions to filmmaking in Nigeria.
Born on this day in 1963, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, she is recognised as one of the second generation filmmakers who helped begin the video film era of Nigerian cinema.
She was a Nigerian filmmaker and broadcasting executive. Igwe was the proprietor of Top Radio 90.9 Lagos and Amaka Igwe Studios.
Igwe came to national limelight as the writer and producer of award-winning TV soap ‘Checkmate’ and its offshoot ‘Fuji House of Commotion’. Other projects included ‘Rattle Snake’ and ‘Violated’.
Until her demise in 2014, she remained a prominent figure in the movie industry
