Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that old buildings confirmed to be weak on the Lagos Island would be pulled down next year.
The Governor, who visited the Balogun Market which was ravaged by fire causing loss of multi-million naira worth of properties and goods, announced that his administration would next year commence the implementation of the Lagos Island regeneration plan.
He said; “Plans for the regeneration of Lagos Island are already perfected and that implementation will commence next year. Families that own properties on the Island must be prepared to support government’s efforts on regeneration.
“Government will soon start a conversation on how to commence and proceed. Lagos Island is dominated by buildings of over a century. Those weakened by old age will be pulled down during the regeneration,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu who sympathised with the traders at the Balogun Market for their losses, said government would soon begin the construction of Oluwole phase II.
